Head measurements:

Size 1: toddler (1-2 year): 40cm/15.75”

Size 2: small child (3-5 year): 43-46cm/17-18” 

Size 3: child and pre-teens (6-11 year): 48cm/19”

Size 4: teens and adult (small): 51-53cm/ 20-21”

Size 5: adult: 56cm/22”

The finished measurements of the hat:    

Circumference of brim unstretched: 31.5 (34, 38, 42, 45) cm/12.5 (13.25, 15, 16.5, 17.75)” 

Circumference of body unstretched: 37.5 (41.5, 46, 50, 55) cm/ 14.75 (16.25, 18, 19.75, 21.5)” 

Length of hat: 17.5 (19, 21, 22.5, 24) cm/ 6.75 (7.5, 8.25, 8.75, 9.5)”

Gauge: 

Gauge for the hat is calculated when it is laid flat and NOT stretched. There can be variation in the size of the hat if the knitter’s gauge is not exact.

 10cm x 10cm/4” x 4”: 28 sts over 36 rnds in 1×1 rib and needle 3.0mm/US 2½, or the size needed to obtain gauge

10cm x 10cm/4” x 4”: 24 sts over 40 rows in Broken Rib pattern and needle 3.5mm/US 4, or the size needed to obtain gauge 

Yarn:

This version is worked with two qualities of yarn held together.

 A: 100/109 (125/136, 150/164, 185/202, 200/218) m/yd BFL 4ply (49103P) by Chester Wool Company, fingering, 100% Bluefaced Leicester, 400m/437yd per 100g/3.5oz

B: 100/109 (125/136, 150/164, 185/202, 200/218) m/yd Silk Mohair by Isager, colorway 0, lace, 70% mohair, 30% silk, 212m/232yd per 25g/0.88oz 

Other yarns can be used, but keep in mind that using other yarn qualities might lead to a different overall look of the hat. It can also affect the amount of yarn needed.
